Closeup of the
long running Thomas Betts 327, which waged a war with the GE
M400A2 for most of the 70's, for supremacy among NYC's luminaires.
Unlike the old disgusted looking M400's and Westinghouse Silverliners,
that quickly disappeared in the 70's, the 327 has maintained
strong numbers throughout the last 20-plus years. The most striking thing about this fixture, to me, is it's bemused, frankly constipated, stupid expression. I originally nicknamed them "Dummies", but now feel "Goofy" is more like it. Thomas Betts continues it's dominance in the city today, with the 327's little brother, the TB-113. |
