GE Form 79 and Old Pole from Ardsley
Photo Gallery Streetlights

A 1950's era "Gumball/Teardrop" pendant type fixture, still hangin' in there, at the corner of NYS Route 9a and Ardsley Road, in Ardsley, NY. It is connected to a rusting lamppost typical of the 1950's, with a braced uplift mastarm.
The pole is missing its finial, which was probably spiked like the finial crowning the luminaire. This pole was probably installed when the bridge taking Ardsley Rd across the NYS Thruway and Saw Mill Pkwy was built.
I wish to thank site contributor Sanders Saltzman, who provided me with a copy of a 1951 GE catalog, from which I've tentatively identified this fixture. According to that catalog, this Form 79 is fitted with a 4110 Holophane refractor. The pole is most likely a Union Metal Octaflute Monotube model, which GE distributed.
Shot in the summer 1998.
